Title: Apple Tart I

Yield: 4 Servings

1cUnsweetened applesauce
1/4cFirmly packed brown sugar
2tbUnsalted butter, melted
2tsCornstarch
1/4tsGround cinnamon
 pnCloves
1 Frozen 9-inch pie shell,
  Thawed according to
  Directions on the package
2lgGranny Smith apples, pared,
  Halved and
  Cored
1tbGranulated sugar

In a medium-sized bowl, stir together the applesauce, brown sugar, butter, cornstarch, cinnamon and cloves until blended. Spoon into the pie shell and spread level. Thinly slice the apples crosswise, keeping the apple shape. Flatten the apples slightly; slide a knife under the sliced apples and arrange on the tart. Sprinkle evenly with the granulated sugar.

Bake in a preheated 375F oven for 1 hour, until browned. Cool on a rack and serve warm or at room temperature.

Makes 8 servings.
